A spokesperson for NSW TrainLink, which operates the trial, said that despite strong feedback during community engagement last year, "patronage levels have been lower than expected".
The trial had an initial duration of six months, but it has been extended to May 1, 2019.
Community feedback relates to additional stops and lower pricing.

Additional stops include Albury Town Centre and CSU Wagga.
"We have introduced a special 25 per cent discount offer for same-day return day tickets for pre-booked customers to encourage further uptake of the service by university students, day trippers and families," the spokesperson said.
"We have extended the trial to implement these changes and determine its effect on patronage numbers.
"We encourage the community to continue to support the trial."
These services operate seven days a week departing from Wagga town centre and Wodonga with stops including Wagga Wagga Station, Uranquity, The Rock, Yerong Creek, Henty, Culcairn, Gerogery, Lavington and Albury Station.
