The well-travelled five-year-old proved too strong for $2.40 favourite Class Clown to win by 1½ lengths.
It was his first win since success at Gladstone five starts ago and his first race back south since running at Nanango, 140 kilometres north of Toowoomba, in December.
However the $8 chance produced a strong run first up to hand Griffith trainer Russell Hogan a victory.
It was Hogan's first success in the race after more than three decades in the game.
He said it was a pleasure to win.
"It's not easy to win, even though there's only seven horses, but they're seven handy horses," Hogan said.
Hogan isn't afraid to travel Cooee March, who has also raced at Gatton, Wondai, Sunshine Coast and Barraga since finishing ninth in the Griffith Cup in September.
