The main, council-run meeting point was down at Kohlhagen Beach, where regular participators and fresh hands got together to clear the banks of the river.
Environmental Education Officer at Wagga City Council, Sam Parsell, said they had over 45 people signed up.
"We're already on to our second sign up sheet and it's only halfway through the event," she said.
Local businesses and organisations got on board the community effort as well, with Urban Landcare, Tidy Towns, Path Finders groups, Triple M and even Telstra helping out.
"We've had all ages here too," Miss Parsell said.
"There's loads of families, little ones and teenagers, everyone is getting on board which is great to see."
The organisers are hoping to see over a hundred rubbish bags filled over the course of the clean-up, with a skip bin and truck ready to collect the waste.
