The Goulburn stayer had not been in the winner's stall since breaking his maiden in September 2017.
Fourteen starts later, Delude ($3.40) took out the Golden View Marquee Benchmark 58 Handicap (2000m) - a heat of the Wagga Stayers Series.
Courtesy of a top Richard Bensley ride, Delude arrived just in time to edge out Run Hoff Run ($4.40) by a long neck, with 1¾ lengths to Hayne Plane ($9.50) back in third.
Goulburn trainer Tash Burleigh was delighted to see the four-year-old win again.
"I'm very happy. It's been a long, long time coming," Burleigh said.
"He hadn't won a race for quite a while. He had been knocking on the door and it's great for the owners, they have been so patient with him."
Burleigh hopes to bring Delude back to Wagga for more of the Wagga Stayers Series.
"It's a race to race proposition with him. He's such a tricky horse," she said.
"He's so easy going, if anything he's too laidback. Hopefully winning will give him enough confidence to go on with it.
"We'll come back for a few more of the Stayers Series. It's a great concept and it's a great place to come here. A nice, big track and you don't run into any of the Sydney trainers."
It was the second leg of a winning double for Bensley, who was successful earlier in the day on Zaromatic ($7.00) for Gratz Vella.
It was a good day for Goulburn trainers, winning three of the nine races.
Denmiss ($5.00) was very impressive winning the last race, The Deck On Cup Day Benchmark 58 Handicap (1000m) in a slick 57.48 seconds for trainer Wayne Hudd and jockey Kayla Nisbet.
