Valentine’s Day Date Night is back with pop-up bars and live entertainment at Wagga City Council’s cultural facilities followed by a romantic sunset movie screening by the Wollundry Lagoon.
Council’s cultural officer Tim Kurylowicz said the free event proved to be a hit in 2018, with couples cuddling up and singles mingling throughout the Wagga Art Gallery, Museum of the Riverina and Wagga City Library.
“As you explore the latest exhibitions, you’ll be entranced by live music and performances, pop-up bars, food vendors and a live DJ – which will all ensure it’s a romantic night out that you won’t easily forget,” he said.
“You can stroll through exhibitions from ground-breaking contemporary artists at the gallery, enjoy two locally curated exhibitions in the museum, or trade glances with beautiful strangers through the shelves of the library.
“Then, at sundown, bring a picnic down to the Wollundry Lagoon for a romantic outdoor screening of the cinema classic When Harry Met Sally, presented by the Civic Theatre.”
DJ Engelbert, Scott Howie, will be bringing the smooth tunes in the Civic Centre Arcade and listeners can be involved in Love Song Requests, a live ‘radio’ show with surprise guests and your stories of love and heartbreak.
Art Gallery manager, Caroline Geraghty, said it was a perfect example of different businesses and organisations coming together.
“It’s been great working with everyone to see how we can do more together,” she said.
“At the shop, there will be fabulous things to spoil your partner with and the glass gallery will be beautiful at night.”
Classical guitarist and teacher at the Riverina Conservatorium of Music, Harold Gretton, said he will be there setting the mood.
“I will be playing some Spanish and Latin Classical guitar music,” he said.
“I think it will be very laid back and even if you’re by yourself come along and check it out.”
artist Lorraine Tye, or pop into the National Art Glass Gallery.
At the Wagga City Library join Dr. Fun and Mrs Cole to play some Love Puzzles of a bygone era, reimagined for the modern world as they celebrate EW Cole – the Australian inventor of the lonely hearts ad.
In his quest to create Wagga’s greatest playlist, DJ Engelbert is taking requests now, go to visitwagga.com/datenight to book a shout out to your sweetheart.
Date Night is this Thursday at the Civic Precinct with live music, food and pop-up bars from 5.30pm to 9pm and the lagoon-side movie screening and food from 8pm for 8.30pm start.
