The annual event at the Equex Centre is the 10th by the Gill family.
“It was very successful, the standard of buck and stock was great,” organiser John Gill said.
“A lot of cowboys hit the ground in the bronc riding and bull riding.”
He also praised attendees for their support.
“More importantly, the crowd was at capacity – we haven’t finalised the count but there would’ve been more than 4000 people,” he said.
“The behaviour was terrific – no incidents whatsoever.
“The crowd must’ve enjoyed it because no one left until the last bull.”
Mr Gill said the weather was “the one thing that had me worried”.
“Just this extremely hot weather in the past few weeks,” he said.
“And yet, there on the day you couldn’t ask for a better day”.
A new initiative for children this year was a special bucking contest using a rubber bull.
“It’s something new that I learnt from Las Vegas and introduced it to rodeo in Australia,” Mr Gill said.
The 81-year-old, whose first involvement in rodeo was at age 7, said he and his three sons would like to grow the event, which includes additional infrastructure changes to accommodate more people.
“It’s a family rodeo and it seems to get bigger and more popular each year,” he said.
The event was officially opened by The Nationals’ candidate for Wagga Mackenna Powell.
