Mrs Kennedy and her husband Justin, who is based at the Australian Army’s Lavarack Barracks with the 1RAR Band, are still assessing what they have lost from their home in Rosslea.
“At this stage we’ve just been able to secure a temporary apartment to live in for the foreseeable future,” she told The Daily Advertiser.
“It has been an incredibly stressful time for us watching, listening to the torrential rain and knowing what was about to happen to the house.
“It was our first home. We put so much time, energy, love and money into it. To see it along with most of our possessions, including our three-month-old son’s belongings, is beyond heartbreaking.”
Mrs Kennedy said watching the flood situation develop had been difficult.
“It was weird. I didn’t understand the gravity of the situation, but my husband did. On Friday morning he popped his head out the front door and saw the storm drains backing up from the rain.
"He took a drive around and realised with the big dumping we’d had that there was flash flooding.
“Worried about me and our son, he told us to pack what we could and get out immediately. His quick actions meant we were safe and were never in immediate danger of flooding or being isolated.
“From there the flooding only got worse as the rain continued and when water was released from the dam.
“We’ve had so much love from Wagga these last few days including friends checking on us and organising new clothes and toys for Zach.”
