Beer is now keen to tackle some of the nation’s best three-year-old sprinters in the $1 million 3YO Inglis Sprint (1100m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday.
“I’m still a bit shocked of how impressive a win it was,” Beer said.
“To lump 61-kilograms on a soft (6) track and smash the track record is an unbelievable effort.
The son of Snitzel quickly put the race beyond doubt and ended up scoring a soft win by just over three lengths.
Beer contemplated backing Logan River up the following day before opting to chase the huge prizemoney on offer at Warwick Farm.
“Simon was extremely positive about the horse and said when he went past the leader he thought he was going to win by six-lengths,” he said.
“But the horse just does enough to win – he knows where the winning post is and switched off because he knew he had done his job.
“We sat down Saturday night and found a race for him at Warwick Farm on Saturday so we scratched him from Sunday’s race at the Sapphire Coast.”
Logan River has had six previous starts in the city when trained by Tony McEvoy.
The three-year-old gelding was placed on two occasions in city grade.
“He is a horse that has raced in better than city grade races and has competed at group level,” he said.
“I know he has only won his last two starts at Queanbeyan and the Sapphire Coast but times don’t lie.”
