A bold display from Deekays Dollar secured victory in the Laurie Kennedy Memorial at Leeton on Tuesday.
Deekays Dollar ($19) had struggled in two starts this preparation but looked an inspired horse as he whipped around the field in the middle stages.
Despite a blistering second quarter of 28.6 seconds as he rounded the field, the five-year-old still had enough in reverse to hold off $1.75 favourite Vasari to win by 6.7 metres.
Kennedy was thrilled to win the race.
“It was very nice,” Kennedy said.
“We weren’t good enough to win it last year, and he’s been racing a bit ordinary and had been a bit fat, but we changed his work in the last two weeks and I told the driver to drive him like he would win.”
Meanwhile nominations have been extended until Wednesday for the Leeton Pacers Cup meeting on Friday.
It is the second attempt at the $15,000 feature after struggling for numbers for the original January 1 date.
