Racing at the Cartwrights Hill circuit was set to start on February 12 but now the first meeting will be on February 18.
With not all the required accreditation completed Harness NSW chief executive John Dumesny wanted to take a conservative approach.
“We expect to have the occupational certificate on the 11th, and we’re very confident of that, but I’m a cautious person and if we don’t get it then it makes it difficult for the meeting on the next day, which we would have drawn the fields for the week earlier,” Dumesny said.
“Safety comes first so we’re pushing back a week.”
The second meeting scheduled for February 26 has also been moved one day forward to create a week’s gap between meetings.
Dumesny insists everything is still in good order after inspecting the facility on Monday.
“We’re very pleased with everything we saw there today and getting to the final touches,” he said.
With the change of date trials will now be run on the 12th.
The grand opening, which will be the third meeting at the new track, remains set for March 10.
Meanwhile Dumesny announced the drought assistance package, which was set to expire on January 31, has been extended to June 30 due to conditions across the state.
