Riverina Police District Inspector Adrian Telfer said they conducted more than 4500 random breath tests across the region.
“Only seven of those returned a positive reading,” he said.
Inspector Telfer said there was three seatbelt infringements, 63 speeding tickets and 180 traffic infringement notices.
“There were huge amounts of police out there doing stationary and mobile RBTs,” he said.
“By and large we are pretty happy with the result.”
Inspector Telfer said it was business as usual despite it being Australia Day and there were no huge spikes in any incidents.
“We did have extra police on to accommodate any increase,” he said.
“To be honest, we are grateful with the way the public behaved over the weekend. We are always prepared for those increases in crime, but thankfully it wasn’t the case.”
Inspector Telfer also reminded drivers that school zones are back in effect this week.
