The RFS posted on Facebook just after 5pm that they were attending reports of fires at Wereboldra in Tumut, Possum Point near Tooma and at Little Talbingo Mountain.
An RFS spokesman told The Daily Advertiser that the fire incidents were in “very inaccessible areas”.
“Ground crews can’t reach the fires at the moment,” he said.
“Aircraft are responding.”
The RFS posted on Facebook that “another fire has been discovered as a result of lightning at Little Talbingo Mountain. Crews are enroute,”
The RFS also posted that a West Blowering Road Ffire- “is not currently threatening any homes however it is in terrain that is difficult to access”.
“Aircraft are inbound to bomb the fire with water and slow its progress.”
The RFS urged residents to “remain vigilant” and keep up to date with the Fires Near Me smartphone app.
Thursday was a Total Fire Ban in Southern Slopes and Eastern Riverina fire areas with the maximum temperature reaching 45 degrees in Wagga, smashing the record for highest January reading set back in 2001.
Friday will also be a Total Fire Ban day.
