A number of Wagga’s leading contenders for next month’s $150,000 Country Championships heat impressed in a trial at Murrumbidgee Turf Club on Wednesday.

Championship hopefuls Forever Newyork, Tully Toff, Lady Mironton, Takookacod and Real Key all met in the last trial of the day.
Last-start winner Forever Newyork, who finished second in the 2017 Championships heat, took out the trial in a time of 57.96 seconds for the 1000m journey.
The Wayne Carroll-trained Lady Mironton was close up in second, while Takookacod was an eye-catching third in his first public appearance since last year’s Wagga Town Plate.
Real Key was fourth, while Tully Toff was beaten four lengths in sixth place.
Wagga trainer Gary Colvin was happy with both his hopefuls, Forever Newyork and Tully Toff.
“It was a good hit-out. Forever Newyork had a bit of time off so I thought I better give him a trial before he goes to Canterbury on February 8,” Colvin said.
“Tully Toff went good but probably needed it more because he had been out for a while.”
Tully Toff will run on Saturday week in a Class Three Highway Handicap (1200m) in Sydney.
Lady Mironton is headed to a Benchmark 58 Handicap (1175m) at Albury on February 8, while Takookacod will resume with a metropolitan start, most likely on February 1 at Canterbury.
Carroll and Spackman were both happy with the trial of their mares.
