Teachers met at the beginning of the week to determine what resources were required, giving the go ahead for the school’s P&C to organise donation channels.
Manager of the school’s P&C Andrew Holmes said their main priority is educational resources.
“We have a book drive going through our Facebook page which asks people to donate picture books for kindergarten and year one students,” he said.
Businesses are also getting on board, helping spread the message.
“Gateway Bookshop is helping us, giving people suggestions of books to purchase for the school if they’re unsure of what can be used in the classroom or what the best choice might be,” Mr Holmes said.
“Wombats has been great too – they’re also giving people suggestions of resources to buy or giving them the choice to purchase gift cards made out to the school so teachers can then go in and purchase what they need when school begins.”
Regional schools are being asked for assistance with excess resources they may have.
“Other schools in the surrounding areas have been helpful, and we’ve asked for donations of anything and everything from them that they can spare.”
Mr Holmes said, at this stage, they’d prefer people wait to actually deliver their donations.
“The school is still closed, so we can’t keep donations there at the moment but we are working to sort out a drop off point, and the PCYC have kindly offered to take donations for us until school starts up again,” he said.
School is set to resume as planned, with teachers going back on Jan 29 and students starting on Jan 30.
