About 3.45pm, emergency services were called to the highway, near Springfield Lane, at Tarcutta.
The man was able to escape the car before sustaining any major injuries.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said when crew members arrived, they found the vehicle on its roof and “well alight”.
“One male self extracted and he was uninjured,” the spokes person said.
“We had one crew but the man didn’t need to be taken to hospital.”
Traffic conditions in the aftermath were heavy, with cars backed up to for up to three kilometres.
One southbound lane was closed for a little under two hours, with the Hume Highway completely open soon after 6pm.
Firefighters and police attended the scene.
