Hughes lines up Carramar Arapaho and Trunkey Tash in the Milbrae Quarries Final at Leeton on Tuesday.
“The draws have really made them live chances,” Hughes said.
“(Carramar Arapaho) goes good in front and Tash is going to get the gun run, driven with a sit with the speed on.”
Carramar Arapaho led throughout in his heat last week and Hughes admitted even he was surprised by the performance.
After drawing two for the $15,000 final Hughes is looking to do the same.
“At some stage, probably half way up the straight, he’ll look the winner but whether they swamp him late I don’t know,” he said.
“When he’s right, and he feels as though he’s right, he’s a hard horse to run down.”
He’s also thrilled with the eight alley for Trunkey Tash.
She was beaten as a $1.45 favourite last week but expects she’ll be much better suited from the trailing draw.
“The eight is the perfect draw for Tash,” Hughes said.
“We found out the other night you can’t use her out of the gate, but she was there to qualify and that is the main thing.
“Even in track work she never goes as good in front as she does in behind.”
Amanda Turnbull’s You Ninety Two and Augustus Jack are favoured to take out the race but have both drawn the outside of the back row.
