McDonald lines up five greyhounds in the New Year’s Cup Final (400m) on Friday, but the Wagga trainer is looking for his in-form bitch to overcome the numerical disadvantage.
Indigo Summer won her heat last Friday and has only missed the placings twice in her 12 starts to date.
Williams has been thrilled with how she’s started her career and puts it down to one thing – a brilliant beginning.
“She is a good little box dog and makes her own luck in her races,” Williams said.
Indigo Summer has drawn six in the final, but Williams isn’t too concerned about where he starts from.
“It probably doesn’t what box she has as she just jumps and goes,” he said. “If she hits the front then they will have to catch her.”
One thing that does worry him is the heat.
The meeting was moved forward to try to avoid the expected top of 42.
Williams hope it doesn’t near that by race time.
“She’s in race seven and I’m expecting 38 degrees by then, but we will see and touch wood we can make it through,” he said.
“If not there is always next week.”
