Wagga police conducted 272 random breath and drug tests across the city on December 25, with only one registering over the limit.
By contrast, between Friday and Christmas Eve, nearly 60 infringements had been given from more than 1500 roadside stops. Mostly in regards to seatbelts and mobile phones.
Across the region since Friday, there have been more than 5000 roadside stops.
Together it amounted to 87 infringement notices for speeding, 17 notices for not wearing a seatbelt and 131 notices for other breaches of road laws.
“It’s really disappointing to see that there’s been 60 offences so far, and some of those relate to seatbelts and mobile phones so we are pleading, distractions are one of the key causes of major road crashes out there,” said Inspector Adrian Telfer.
Riverina officers will continue extra patrols until January 2, as part of the statewide highway blitz, Operation Safe Arrival.
