A few hundred residents attended the 10am Christmas Day mass at Saint Michael’s Cathedral as part of their festive season traditions to remember and celebrate the birth of Jesus.

The service celebrated the incarnation of the high points of Christian revelation and where God, the Father, gives his son, Jesus, into the world for salvation.
For Cyril Zamudio, Christmas Day mass is a very important tradition and he hopes to send the message of “peace on earth and goodwill to all mankind”.
“Yes we go every Christmas, we can never miss a mass,” Mr Zamudio said.
Father Reece Beltrame led the Christmas Day masses and brought the important message of where there is unity, there is faith.
“As Pope Benedict once said, ‘when the light of faith goes out every light becomes dimmer,’” Father Beltrame told church-goers.
“We are going through a cultural darkness and it affects every single person in our culture, myself included.
“If you look at the lack of morals and its decline over the last decade, a lack of faith, a lack of credible leaders in our society and a lack of human happiness that is rising in anxiety, depression and human despair.
“We have falling birth rates and we have a culture in crisis, so Christ comes into this world to unite us, where there is Christ, there is unity,” he said.
This was Father Beltrame’s third Christmas as a priest and said Christmas Day is one of the most attended services.
