Here is a handy guide of suggestions and tips on how to keep the merry cheer going on Boxing Day.
1. Take a Day Trip
When you need a break but don’t have the dosh or the time, there are plenty of destinations close to Wagga.
If you want to save your hard-earned while still feeling like you’ve hit the reset button on life, venture off on one of these short day trips that are guaranteed to impress.
Adelong Falls
With an idyllic – and relatively easy - drive up the mountains, day-trippers will find themselves at the Adelong Falls.
An easy walk from the car park, wheelchair accessible, leads to the viewing platform. For the more nimble, pathways lead down to Adelong Creek and the ruins.
By foot, cross over the swinging bridge, which can be found by walking down the path beside the Swinging Bridge Café in the centre of town. Take the left-hand path and follow Adelong Creek to the ruins.

2. Head to the pub
If you can’t be bothered to cook and clean on Boxing Day head to one of the local pubs or bars for a pint and feed.
Boxing Day at The Farmers
Sit back listen to tunes from DJ Cheese all afternoon, hook in with food and bar specials, and enjoy the sun in of Wagga’s beer gardens.

4. Tumut Boxing Day Races
People from near and far dust themselves off after a big Christmas Day and prepare to flock to the Tumut Boxing Day races on Tuesday.
The race meet has become a favourite fixture on the region’s social calendar.
Some attend with the sole aim of backing a winner or two, but others go along simply to soak up the festive atmosphere.
Tumut Turf Club is one of the oldest Race Clubs in NSW having commenced racing in the 1850′s.
Along with the races come, enjoy live entertainment. Food is available through the kiosk and barbecue and bar facilities are available on course.
Country and metropolitan bookmakers will operate on the day with full TAB facilities.

5. Get your shopping fix
Swap over the clothes that are too small, hunt down the best Boxing Day Sales and stay away from the heat in the airconditioned shopping centres.
- Wagga Marketplace open from 9am to 2pm.
- Sturt mall open from 10am to 3pm, but some speciality stalls may differ.
