Update at 10.10am: Six people have been confirmed as being taken to Wagga Base Hospital following a two-car accident in Springvale this morning.
“Local rescue workers extracted two patients and all up five patients [were] transported to Wagga Base Hospital via ambulance in stable conditions,” NSW Ambulance district manager Eamonn Purcell said.
“Their injuries ranged between fractured arms and neck and back pains.
“None of them were particularly serious.
“But it could’ve been a lot worse had the car been going faster and there had been different circumstances.”
The incident occurred around 8am today with initial reports suggesting that there were multiple patients and people were trapped with serious injuries.
“When paramedics got to the scene, they found that there were two cars with people trapped,” Mr Purcell said.
“Obviously, ambulance and police would appeal to drivers to take care, slow down and make sure you’re not fatigued this holiday season.
“A lot of people will try to fit a lot more in that they can possibly manage and that may lead to accidents like this one.”
Wagga police directed traffic while tow trucks removed the damaged vehicles – a Ford wagon and Toyota hatchback.
Earlier: Emergency services have responded to a two-car crash on Holbrook Road on the outskirts of Wagga on Friday morning.
Eight NSW Ambulance crews rushed to the scene at the intersection of Dunns, Lloyd and Holbrook roads at Springvale shortly before 8am, reacting to reports of a multiple-vehicle crash.
Several patients were being treated at the crash site by paramedics, a spokesperson for the organisation confirmed.
Among them was a 35-year-old male believed to be suffering chest pains from the airbag deploying, another with lower back and neck pain complaints and spinal precautions were being taken with a third patient who managed to free themselves from the vehicle but was believed to be experiencing chest pains.
More to come.
