“Good planning now could avoid inconvenience during the Christmas season, when the holiday period might make it more difficult to see a GP for that prescription update,” Murrumbidgee Local Health District’s executive director of medical services, Wendy Cox, said.

““Dropping off scripts early allows pharmacists ample time to fill orders. It also means people can collect their medications in advance and avoid worrying about last-minute refills in the middle of their holiday,” she said.

“People planning to travel during the holidays should have ample medication and an up-to-date copy of relevant prescriptions with them before they leave home.”

While you’re planning that summer holiday, don’t forget to check the that the household first aid kit is fully stocked for cuts, scratches and other minor conditions, Dr Cox said.

The MLHD has announced all public hospital emergency department’s will remain open 24 hours, seven days over the Christmas and New Year period.

“Emergency departments at all of our hospitals never close and emergency care continues around the clock,” Dr Cox said.

“We urge people with minor conditions to see their GP or seek other health advice and to keep the ED for emergencies during the festive holiday period,” she said.

“It is important to remember EDs do not provide prescription renewals or doctor’s certificates.
