Macy Burns said her “head was all in a mess” when her baby came down with a severe cough, which turned out to be a serious case of pneumonia.
It was one of the darkest days the family had ever experienced; only the day before her partner’s father passed away in hospital.
The family rushed little Lachlan to Griffith Base Hospital’s children's ward, where the family waited anxiously for ten days while Lachlan received treatment.
The baby boy suffered from high temperatures and fluid inside the lungs, but the paediatric nurses worked tirelessly to help stabilise him.
The nurses were not just looking after Lachlan; Ms Burns said that the nurses went above and beyond to provide support for the worried family members.
“We could just come and go as we wanted in the children’s ward and it was like a second home for us,” she said.
“The nurses need to be recognised more and their hard work needs to be shown.”
Lachlan is back to being the same smiling baby boy that he was before.
For this reason she was one of the people applauding the hardest when the children’s ward received a cheque from the Give Me 5 for Kids charity.
“No parent should ever have to experience seeing their child so sick, but be reassured if you land yourself with your child in the children’s ward in Griffith you will feel right at home,” she said.
