Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Spliet said police were called to a licenced premises on Lake Albert Road in Wagga on Friday evening.
“Police attended due to injuries to a wrist from a broken schooner glass,” he said.
“The male was treated by paramedics for severe bleeding and he was later airlifted to Canberra Hospital where he was treated for that injury.
“A 27-year-old male has since been arrested and charged in relation to reckless wounding in that matter.
“Police are calling on any people who might have witnessed the event to contact detectives or crimestoppers.”
Inspector Spliet said the motivation behind the assault was still unknown.
“We are speaking to a number of witnesses and reviewing CCTV in relation to the matter,” he said.
“It is my understanding that the male (victim) lost a considerable amount of blood. He was stablised at Wagga hospital before being airlifted.
“He will have a permanent disability in relation to the matter. We are still trying to determine how his wrist has actually been cut and how the injury occurred.”
