Taking on two Canberra sides in a trial for the Brumbies Super W team, Bedford thought the inexperienced side more than held their own on Sunday.
“It was great,” Bedford said.
“I was very impressed.
“We definitely held our own against the Canberra teams and they had some high level girls with Australian players in there.
“Our girls definitely held our own against them and considering we’ve only trained and never played together I thought the team effort was pretty good.”
SIRU lost both of their games, but only went down by two tries in their first hit out.
The Brumbies Super W side is expected to be named later this week.
However five members of the side, CSU’s Biola Dawa and Ivy Merlehan, Ag College’s Zarah Besseling, Albury’s Ally Reid and Leeton’s Kaitlyn McKay, who captained SIRU on Sunday, then played off in the possibles v probables game on Sunday which will be a boost to their chances of being selected.
Dawa was effective in a number of back line roles while McKay, Griffith prop Krystelle de Meyer and Wagga City’s second rower Sabre Medhurst also impressed in the forwards.
