Wagga City Council this week considered its own developer application to host the Australian National Maritime Museum’s ‘Container – The Box that changed the world’ exhibit.
A council spokesperson said the intention was to have the exhibit open from February 4 to May 5 in the car park next to the CSU Riverina Playhouse.
“This outdoor exhibition allows people to literally step inside the box and explore six colourful shipping containers,” the spokesperson said.
“Each container covers one part of the six part exhibition: Ship, Cargo, Port, Ocean, Build, Things.”
According to the application, Wagga council will contribute $25,000 toward the hosting the exhibit.
“This exhibition’s major sponsor is NSW Ports. The figure quoted of $25,000 is council’s contribution toward the costs of hosting this exhibition in the city over a three month period,” a council spokesperson said.
According to the Maritime Museum, the exhibit will allow visitors to explore how products from countries across the world get to take their place in our lives.
“All of this has been made possible by a rectangular steel box – the shipping container,” a museum spokesperson said.
