After losing the cup to Holbrook in the last challenge of the season, the two sides will meet again at Holbrook Sporting Complex.
Sam Perry was captain for the first time as Wagga failed to hold the prestigious trophy over the winter and believes it has only made the association hungrier this time around.
Wagga aren’t at full strength for the clash but still come in with a strong line up including Brayden Ambler and Lachie Skelly, who both played for Riverina in the NSW Country Championships last weekend.
Perry is happy with the team assembled.
“I think we all gel pretty well,” Perry said.
“We have a couple of good bowlers there and our batting line-up is quite strong and we probably bat all the may down to nine or 10.”
Fresh off 45 for South Wagga, Warren Clunes comes into the side replacing teammate Jeremy Rowe.
With Rowe’s absence, and Josh Staines’ move to play grade cricket with Gordon, who will take over the wicketkeeper’s gloves is yet to be finalised.
However Perry expects Ambler or Joel Robinson will step into the role.
Perry expects a strong challenge from Holbrook after they held the cup over the winter for the first time.
Holbrook has made two changes from the last match in February with experienced all-rounder Todd Hannam and left-arm bowler David White coming in.
Captain Darren Howard believes the pair’s inclusion guarantees it’s the strongest outfit.
“This is my sixth year as captain and it would be yeah, it’s just a lot more depth, normally you rely on five or six blokes, but we bat right down and have got plenty of options with the ball,” Howard said.
Griffith will take on the victor.
