Bureau of Meteorology technical officer Nigel Smedley said that in the 24 hours to 9am on Wednesday, the city had 34.6 millimetres of rain.
“It’s the most rain we’ve had in 24 hours this year,” Mr Smedley said.
“Most of the rain fell from midnight onwards.
“There’s a broad trough moving through NSW and so there’s steady and consistent rain.”
The previous high was 26.8 millimetres on September 7.
The latest amount on Wednesday has also contributed to November recording more than the monthly average of 45mm, which was last seen in January this year.
“So far this month, we’ve had 56 millimetres,” Mr Smedley said.
The BOM forecast for the rest of the week is a high chance of continual rain, particularly in the southwest Riverina region.
“Basically from tomorrow onwards, there’s more stable weather as the trough system moves northeast and temperatures will be in the high 20s,” Mr Smedley said.
“The next system could move through mid next week with another cold front, so there may be more rain then as well.”
Elsewhere between Tuesday and Wednesday, Albury and Temora both had 12mm, Griffith had 14mm and Tumbarumba had 22mm.
