One of the highlights of the Zone 8 season, Wagga finished off too strong in the competition from the six districts in the region to ensure hosting rights again for next season.
After Saturday’s play across the Wagga RSL and Rules clubs, Riverina took the lead from Albury but as it came down to the game five on Sunday any one of the six districts, including Southern Highlands, South Western and Southern Slopes were still in contention to win the shield.
However in the end it was the guile, experience and a bit of local knowledge which got Wagga over the line for their third consecutive win.
Southern Slopes were runners-up.
Albury didn’t go home empty handed after winning the annual cup competition.
