The grass fire at French Park, Lockhart, was brought under control around midday after some swift work by four brigades, including Milbrulong and The Rock.
Riverina RFS operational officer Brad Stewart said the incident was also helped by the community.
“With the assistance of private firefighting trucks, we got on top of it quickly,” Mr Stewart said.
In a statement, The Rock Rural Fire Brigade said the quick action stopped the fire from destroying crops.
“As the temperature rises and the warm winds blow, fire has the potential to spread quickly,” the brigade said.
“Remember to report all fires to triple zero.”
Mr Stewart said they also received two other calls today.
“They were by people who thought they saw smoke, but it’s just dust lifting off,” he said.
Mr Stewart reminds residents to ensure they are adequately prepared for the bush fire season, including having a survival plan.
It comes as the RFS today urged farmers to cease harvest across Junee, Lockhart, Coolamon and Wagga due to weather conditions.
