West Wyalong, who held the cup over the winter two seasons ago, was a notable omission when the draw was finalised this week.
However they wasted little in securing their place.
President David Proevstel thought it was a good date for the association.
“With our club cricket at the start of the season we seem to struggle getting commitment and numbers and find once we get into January everyone is up and about and have their minds on cricket season,” Proevstel said.
The O’Farrell Cup starts when Wagga challenges hosts Holbrook in a rematch of the final challenge of last season on November 18.
There will be five challenges before Christmas, West Wyalong then kicks off the new year.
