Councillors were presented with Wagga City’s annual financial statement which showed a “preliminary net operating surplus of $22.1m” for 2017/18 including capital grants and contributions.
“The 2016/17 financial year resulted in a net operating surplus of $32.6m,” the financial statement said.
“The main difference in the reduced net result is attributable to a reduction in grants and contributions received for 2017/18.”
Cr Kendall said the statements showed “the council is going about its business in a professional manner”.
“It’s by the accumulation of those sorts of financial results that we will be able to address in the very near future things like the backlog in infrastructure,” he said.
Cr Kendall said “hard work” had brought progress but there was still some room for improvement.
