Courtney Lewis taught herself how to use makeup and loves the gory look when it comes to the American holiday.
“I watched a lot of YouTube videos and played around with the stuff I had,” she said.
“I am also really into art.
“I am a big fan of the gory side of things and special effects makeup.”
Miss Lewis encouraged people not to be daunted by the idea of makeup and follow steps until you know how to do it yourself.
“Figuring out what is best for you face shape is also a big one,” she said.
“Products don’t even have to be expensive, I shop at Priceline and get my theatrical makeups from Spotlight.”
Steps:
- Map out where the sections are going to be.
- Block in the colour on one side, it doesn’t need to be neat.
- Have a reference photo to give yourself an idea of what you’re doing.
- Mark out the basic shapes.
- Filling in the other side with your foundation for the half-glam, half-pumpkin look. Make sure to leave a strip down the centre for the latex because it doesn’t sit well on foundation.
- Grab your scar wax and start building up the cuts. Wet your fingers and use a makeup spatula when sculpting.
- Add your latex along the edge of the wax will smoove it out, make it look like skin and hold it all together.
- While waiting for the latex to dry, do your eye shadow (use gold) on the clean side.
- Use a hair dryer to dry the latex.
- Touch up the colours you did and add the eyeshadow powder of the same color over the paint to seal.
- When latex is dry add foundation and bruise colours to give it more colours.
- Add some shadow underneath the scar to give it the illusion it’s lifted up.
- Add the bumps down the neck.
- Add some blood to make it real gory.
- Add gold eyeshadow on the pumpkin side.
- Voila!
HOT TIP 1: When using latex on any place with hair, make sure to put on vaseline first. Otherwise, you might not have eyebrows left.
HOT TIP 2: The makeup comes off with baby wipes.
Ms Lewis is going as a spooky mermaid for her Halloween celebrations.
