If you have ever sat down for a meal at Ray Ray’s diner on Forsyth Street, you may have noticed some visitors are a little unusual. 

Owner of the diner, Jeanette Saxvik, said geese and ducks will cross the road to visit three to four times a day. 

“People aren’t used to seeing the ducks so some cars will stop, but others won’t,” she said. 

“We started feeding them last year because we saw a baby goose be crushed by a car.

“The only way we could get its little body off the road was to get the adults away, so we took food over.”

Ms Saxvik said now the birds associate the work shirts with food and now they have got into the habit.

“I keep scraps for them now to make sure I get them back over there,” she said.

“The ducks follow the geese now as well and I can have 50 to 100 birds.”

Ms Saxvik said because the lagoon is across the road, drivers need to exercise caution while driving.

“People think if they hit the horn they will move, but they don’t,” she said. 

“They have got to slow down, especially at this time of year when there are a lot of babies.”

Ms Saxvik said she loves their visits and it’s nice for the customers as well.
