Harness Racing NSW will hold it’s annual awards night in Sydney on Saturday night and there is a strong Riverina presence throughout the finalists.
Classy two-year-olds Major Roll and Cee Cee Ambro are both contenders in their respective categories, as is Muscle Factory, who was bred and is part-owned by Wagga’s Jared Kahlefeldt.
Redbank Addi (3YO Fillies) and Don’t Think Twice (Aged Mares) are other Riverina pacers nominated in the Horse of the Year awards.
Wagga trainer-driver Brett Hogan is a finalist in the Kevin Newman Award for Driving Excellence for the best drive of the season.
Hogan’s winning drive on Gumly Grey at Wagga on June 16 is one of five drives in contention for the overall award.
Molly Turton and Todd Day are nominees for the Junior Trainer Encouragement Award, while Ashley Hart is up for the Junior Driver Encouragement Award.
Brett Woodhouse, Chris Hughes, David Eurell and Wayne Sullivan are nominees for the Hobby Trainer of the Year, while Steve Maguire and Sullivan are in contention for Hobby Driver of the Year.
Brett Woodhouse, Sally Woodhouse, Shane Felke and Stephen Hunt are nominees for NSW Owner of the Year, while Bruce Harpley is in contention for the NSW Breeder of the Year award.
Jimmy Brown and Royce Gregory-Jack are nominees for the Indigenous Participant of the Year.
Blake Jones will be recognised as a Centurion for the season, as will former Ganmain trainer-driver KerryAnn Turner, who will also be presented her Champion Trainer award.
Coolamon Harness Racing Club have been nominated for the Best Fraternity Engagement Award, while Wagga, Albury, Leeton and West Wyalong are up for Best Club awards.
Quick Approval, John Street North, Million Dollar Cam and For A Reason are finalists for NSW Sire of the Year.
