Rowe has been lured back to the Goannas next season some 15 years after leaving and going on to enjoy an extensive playing and coaching career across the country.
The 34-year-old has spent the past two seasons juggling playing commitments with Marrar, where he won a premiership last year, with assistant coaching duties with Canberra Demons.
Rowe is looking forward to taking on the role at MCUE.
“I’m genuinely excited,” Rowe said.
“I’m certainly looking forward to getting my hands dirty and getting into it.
“From a personal perspective, I’ve had a couple of years where I’ve taken a break from senior coaching and been an assistant and I’m feeling refreshed and energised and I’m eager to get into it.
“I couldn’t be happier with my decision.”
Rowe left Wagga at 22 and spent four years with West Adelaide in the SANFL.
He coached Walpeup-Underbool to a premiership in the Mallee League, before returning to the SANFL as a development coach at Port Magpies.
Rowe then coached Belconnen for three years before spending the past two seasons at Canberra Demons and Marrar.
Rowe will now follow in his father Bevan’s footsteps by taking on the MCUE coaching role.
He wants to work in partnership with the players about taking ownership of the club.
Rowe also spoke of his desire to work with the players one-on-one to get the best of themselves, the leadership group on club culture and on-field, equipping players with the knowledge and skill to handle and deal with moments better than the opposition.
MCUE president Graeme Killalea was thrilled to appoint Rowe.
“He’s one of our young footballers that comes back having experienced a higher level,” Killalea said.
“We think he’ll bring professionalism and an injection of new ideas.
“We hold high regard for Trav (Cohalan) and the work he put in and now we hope that Jeremy can build on that hard work.”
