Firefighters from Turvey Park Fire and Rescue were called to the courthouse about 7:20pm on Friday and spent two hours containing what they described as an “internal waterfall” after a fire hydrant head blew off on the top floor.
The flooding that ensued spread over two floors of the courthouse.
A Department of Justice spokesman said courts three and four – which usually host the Local and District courts respectively – will remain closed until an assessment is completed.
“A clean-up was carried out over the long weekend to remove the excess water and dry the carpets,” he said.
“As assessment of the damage has started today. This assessment could take some time to finalise.”
The spokesman said court will continue to sit despite the ongoing cleanup, with two of the older courtrooms now being utilised.
