Local brick layer Mick Clark guided the four students and said Wagga is currently experiencing a building boom, with high employment prospects.
“Over the course of three days we gave students a taste of not just brick laying but what it’s like in the real world in the trade building game,” Mr Clark said.
“There’s heaps of options out there students in the building industry and at the moment Wagga has a boom so apprentices are sought after.”
The students were taught safety procedures on a building site, having respect for your boss and colleagues, as well as the preparation in mix and mortar, the basics of laying bricks using a spirit level and trowel.
They built the walls and foundations of another learning space and a retaining wall for the pizza ovens, which will eventually be paved and grassed.
Jarred Kenny, 15, said the first day was spent learning the basics and the last two days have been spent building the wall.
“I think brick laying is good for anyone that is interested, but personally this is not something that I would want to do in the future,” he said.
