Sixteen years after winning the City To Lake, Kahlefeldt will be back to compete in the modern-day version of the event, the Wagga Lake Run and Ride.
Kahlefeldt broke the old course record when blitzing his rivals to take out the 2002 City to Lake.
He still holds many fond memories and having now retired as a professional triathlete and ironman, Kahlefeldt decided to return home to Wagga to take part in the Wagga Lake Run and Ride.
“I’m going to come back just for the weekend. It’s a good opportunity to do it,” Kahlefeldt said.
“I obviously haven’t done it since 2002. That was a few weeks before I won the under 23 world championships in Cancun, Mexico.
“That was obviously a long time ago now so it will be good to come back and go in it again.
“The last 15 or 20 years I’ve always been overseas but now I’m retired and just focusing on running and marathons, it’s a good opportunity.”
Kahlefeldt is running the Melbourne Marathon on October 14 and will use the Lake Run and Ride as a lead-up hit-out.
The Lake Run and Ride is a 10 kilometre course that starts and finishes at Lake Albert. It is one of the few free fun runs in the world.
Runners and walkers should assemble at Apex Park at 10.15am on Sunday for a 10.30pm start.
Cyclists should assemble at 9.30am for a 9.45am start.
Registrations for the race close at 4pm on Saturday.
