Diane Joyce Dean, 64, fronted Wagga Local Court for sentencing on Wednesday after police caught her driving under the influence with another seven grams of the drug hidden in her bra.
Dean pleaded guilty and told the magistrate that she uses marijuana to help manage her pain because her doctor would not prescribe it, insisting it does not affect her ability to drive.
Magistrate Brian van Zuylen, however, was not buying that excuse.
“Well, it’s a criminal offence … why do you think you know more than your doctor about managing your pain?” Mr van Zuylen asked.
“You’re stubborn in your use of it, that’s your decision, however, there is a community risk associated with you driving with drugs in your system."
Dean was fined $2000 and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
