Dawes and his mount Remi First Love had four faults in the showjumping round but is just enough to hold off Jessica Grosman and WS Poncho Loco who had a clean last round in the 105cm class.
Grosman had more success in the 95cm winning on WS Raising Roxy ahead of Leeton’s Paige O’Gready who finished second with CSU Lyrebird and third with Red Bluff Auberon.
Liz Layard took out the 80cm with Airs and Graces, William David won the 80cm junior with Lamondale Giorgio while Madeleine Prell won the 60cm with Ballycastle Victoria and Wendy Skill won the 45cm with Archibalds Prize.
After the event wasn’t run last year, it was a successful return for the two-day event at CSU Equine Centre.
Wagga’s next event is the NSW Country Jumping Championships over the long weekend.
