Kooringal started the season in A Reserve before a mid-season reshuffle saw them come into the top grade.
They definitely didn’t look out of place, but had their season ended with a 49-38 loss to New Kids in the preliminary final on Saturday.
Kooringal had a strong start controlling the first quarter with defenders Phoebe Wallace and Lea Kerr coming away with great intercepts that Sophie Cooper, Eliza Kelly and Bridie Willis were able to then transfer back down the court.
Half-time saw New Kids claim the lead by one with shooters Cloe Hildebrand and Flynn Hogg shooting consistently from well placed opportunities provided by Rachael Addison and Lisa Frow.
They built on that with a powerful third quarter to going into the last term seven clear.
Kooringal shooters Sophie Fawns and Lauren Cooper struggled in the wind, presenting New Kids defenders Kate Bell, Lily Buchanan, Ella Fellows and Rebecca Salmon ample opportunities to reclaim possession for New Kids.
In the end New Kids were too strong for Kooringal earning themselves a place in the grand final next week against Uranquinty.
New Kids Aces are looking for their fifth premiership in the last six seasons in the rematch with Uranquinty.
They scored a five-point win in last year’s decider however Uranquinty have only lost once this season.
They went straight into the grand final with a nine-goal win over Kooringal last week and have beaten New Kids in both their meetings so far this season.
They took a 62-56 win in round two before a 61-49 victory in round seven.
In a change of tradition the grand final will be played on Sunday.
Wagga Netball president Rosemary Clarke said the shift was to avoid a clash with the Riverina League grand final at Narrandera on Saturday.
Last season the Farrer League and Wagga Netball grand finals were on the same day, but both were played in Wagga.
Clarke said the extra travel had a big impact on players across various grades as umpires and caused the shift.
A Grade will play at 2.30pm with the first of the grand finals starting at Equex Centre from 9.30am.
