Ms Clark said music has always been important to her family.
“My dad has been a musician all his life,” she said
“He’s played in a punk band and rock bands and one year he played a lot of acoustic music, he always had instruments lying around and encouraged me to play.
“Songwriting came to me when I was an early teenager and it was a natural progression and I thought it was normal because dad had done it.”
Ms Clark said sometimes younger songwriters can be judged for not having ‘enough’ life experience.
“People say ‘how can you be 23 and write about life experiences?’,” she said.
“The first album I put out was about being a hopeless romantic and throwing yourself into thigs and there is a little bit of naivety.
“Whereas this new album Collide, is about being more ‘knowing’ about the world and being a bit more guarded.”
Ms Clark said being able to tour and support artists like Diesel, Daryl Braithwaite, Willie Watson and Shane Nicholson.
Imogen Clark will perform at The Birdhouse on Sunday, September 9.
