I’m sure we all know men in our lives who will do almost anything to avoid a check-up with their GP.
Perhaps you’re even one yourself?
The “Nah, she’ll be right” refrain to every ache, pain, cough, splutter and worse is not healthy.
In fact, it is costing men their lives. And for what?
That’s why it was so refreshing to see about 300 men turn out for the “Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch” in Wagga on Friday.
In it’s fifth year, the event is specifically aimed at raising awareness about prostate cancer and carries the cheeky (pardon the pun) catch cry of “Let’s give prostate cancer the finger!”.
But the event’s key messages – have regular check-ups and don’t ignore symptoms – are universal.
Somewhere along the male species’ evolutionary journey this aversion to medical intervention became ingrained in their psyche.
It’s time that changed.
All the best, Ross.
