Turvey Park Public School Jazmin Castle takes centre-stage as the youngest featured performer at Schools Spectacular

The talented 10-year-old singer from Turvey Park Public School Jazmin Castle, said her favourite genre is musical theatre. 

“I started listening to music channels on ABC Kids when I was three years old,” she said. 

“My favourite part about singing is having lots of opportunities within it, because it can make you more comfortable in front of a big crowd. 

“I’m a bit proud of myself and I’m so excited.” 

While Jazmin hasn’t had any music lessons so far, the school’s choir teacher Tamara Edmunds said she has taken every opportunity in her stride. 

“She caught my eye last year in the Chords Festival and she’s a singer that takes on opportunities,” Mrs Edmunds said. 

“This year she sang at the Choral Music at the Sydney Opera House, she’s been involved in the Madame Butterfly performance at the Civic Theatre as well as a solo in the Marketplace Education Week performances.” 

The cast of the Schools Spectacular is comprised over 5000 of the state’s most talented singers, dancers and musicians. 

An extensive audition process was carried out across the state, which saw Jazmin traveling to Sydney three times. 

The final cast is comprised of a 2700 voice choir, 2300 dancers, an 80 piece orchestra and talented soloists from ages five to 18. 

About 30,000 people are expected to attend the concert, which will be held in Sydney, November 23-24. 

Schools Spectacular creative director, Sonja Sjolander is confident that this year’s 35th Schools Spectacular will live up to its name: The Greatest.

“This year’s show is shaping up to be one of the best yet,” Ms Sjolander said.
