The small Riverina village had a population of 214, according to the latest census. But that number did not include its resident gnomes.
Rosewood’s Gnome Garden and Boot Tree have become the drive-by village’s must-see attractions, according to residents Gilbert Hawkins and Gail Everett.
The shopkeepers said travellers often stopped to get pictures and selfies with the feature displays. Some families, groups and individuals had even added to them across the years.
Ms Everett said a resident had once seen a similar design while travelling outside the region and decided to bring the idea back to Rosewood.
“Everyone is invited to leave a gnome in the garden, or their boots in the tree,” Mr Hawkins said. “We’ll get more people stopping when the toilet block is built.”
The pair said it attracted the most interest when the region’s country music festival brought fresh visitors along Tumbarumba Road.
