The Bombers, who have finished with the wooden spoon the last two years, take on North Wagga, who have played in the last four grand finals. The winner will claim fifth spot.
“A lot of us have played together for a few years now so it would mean a lot,” co-coach Sophie McRae said.
“We forgot what it was like to win so it’s been nice. When we had our first wins, we just took them as they came – one more than last year, two more than last year. So when there was talk of finals, we didn’t really know what to think. We’ve just been taking each week as it comes.”
The Bombers have won seven of their 15 games this season, including pipping the Saints at their first meeting, back in round nine.
“We only beat them by one. It was a shock to us and to them – we couldn’t remember the last time we’d beaten North Wagga, so it was exciting,” McRae said.
The Saints currently sit sixth, one win behind Marrar, but with a superior percentage they will leapfrog the Bombers if they can turn the tables in the final round.
McRae said goal keeper Jaime Worboys has been one of their key players this year.
“She’s been huge asset to the club. She’s got height and she’s very agile for how tall she is,” McRae said.
“No matter what grade or league you play, if you’ve got height at either end it really helps.
“And we’ve had a change in attitude this year, taken things a bit more seriously, so I think it’s been improvement all through the team.”
The winner of Marrar-North Wagga will take on either the Northern Jets or The Rock-Yerong Creek in the elimination final next week.
The Jets (currently fourth) and the Pies (third) meet at Victoria Park on Saturday with the Jets a chance of jumping the reigning premiers and securing a double chance in finals, if they win and make up three percentage points.
CSU are set to finish top of the ladder, ahead of Temora.
