Blake Stanbridge, the snow reporter at Mount Selwyn Snow Resort, said this weekend is the perfect time to get out and take advantage of the snow.
“This past weekend we had the most significant snow storm,” he said.
“We have hit a 40 centimetre base which is going to make our base really fantastic across the rest of the week.
“By the weekend we might have a light dusting of snow fall, but it won’t be like anything we have seen.”
M Stanbridge said for Mount Selwyn this weekend, it will be partly cloudy days and the snow showers will continue in the west on Saturday, but these will start to clear.
“The snow is going to be falling above 800 metres and we are at 1500 metres, so we are expecting a good amount,” he said.
“Take advantage now the cover has been freshly topped up.”
M Stanbridge said it will be another beautiful weekend in the snowy mountains.
Authorities are urging any drivers around alpine areas to take extreme care and drive to the conditions.
