Wiscombe scored four tries – including a hat-trick in the first half – with all coming off a Rupapere pass in the 44-10 demolition of the understrength visitors.

“I’ve never scored four tries, maybe once in 18s,” Wiscombe said.

“Shannon’s awesome to play outside, he always knows when to pass the right ball, he defends well and I get along with him really well, on and off the field.”

The 92kg powerhouse opened the scoring in the fourth minute when he burst through and stepped the fullback.

The pair combined again in the 28^th minute and then rounded out the party tricks with 10 seconds left.

The dynamic duo picked up at the 15-minute mark of the second half where Rupapere cleverly deceived the defence with a sleight of hand as Wiscombe strolled across untouched.

“Liam is just improving every week and he’s just building in confidence,” delighted coach Adrian Purtell said.

The win eclipses last week’s 30-point effort against Temora.

The Thunder has had a well-documented tough season with a series of narrow losses but, despite heading into the match in eighth spot, a strong crowd was on hand, boosted by the club’s ladies’ day and members from the Albury Blues’ reunion.

“I’m glad we put in a performance like that in front of the old boys as well,” Purtell said.

Pacy winger Keanau Wighton finished with 16 points from a try and six goals.

Apart from the two stars, stocky five-eighth Robbie Byatt maintained his good form with another strong performance, combining force when running the ball and finesse when passing, while lightweight replacement Jeremy Wiscombe, Liam’s younger brother, also showed promise from dummy-half.

Meantime, next week’s final game can’t come quickly enough for a Kangaroos’ outfit, which has been decimated by injury.

And it only got worse when coach Ben Jeffery, who spent five years with the Thunder, limped off after 20 minutes with a hamstring injury.

“We’ve got nine guys backing up from reserve grade, it’s tough on them and it’s tough all round at the club,” Jeffery said.
