A strong first half performance helped book their fourth straight grand final appearance on Saturday.
The minor premiers went into the break up 21-5 and scored the first two tries of the second half before sustaining an Aggies fightback to take a 47-24 win.
Ag College got within 11 points, with a man’s advantage, with around 15 minutes to go before Waratahs responded with the last two tries of the game.
While admitting there is plenty to work on before the decider on August 18, captain Tim Corcoran was pleased with how his team responded for the majority of the game.
“We knew they were going to come out with a fair bit of passion, as they do every week, and we just wanted to match that plus more,” Corcoran said.
“We did that to score really early in the game and to get a lead like we had was exactly what we wanted to do.
“It wasn’t an all-round performance for us, there was a crucial 20 minutes there after half-time when we let them back into the game through ill-discipline and a few old habits crept back in, but it was good we are able to show some maturity.
“When we really needed to score, when the pressure was on, it was us who scored and scored again which is a credit to our boys for really growing up.”
Waratahs opened the scoring when speedster Blake Hart found enough room to score.
However Ag College were quick to strike back when Gerard McTaggart dived over from close range.
Plenty of errors from Aggies kept them on the back foot as Harry Hosegood scored a pushover try before Corcoran charged over.
Hosegood scored his second try from a scrum before James Daley forced his way over to got out to a 35-5 lead.
However Ag College weren’t done with as tries to Duncan Woods, Charles Callagahn and McTaggart cut the margin down.
Aggies had their momentum halted by a penalty off the restart and Sam Bunny scored to put the result out of reach.
With Xavier Chigwidden and Austin Wallace were both yellow carded in the clash the team’s discipline is something Corcoran is looking to work on before the grand final.
Waratahs went down in a thriller to Leeton last season but this time around they are the side riding a 15-game winning streak into the decider
“To have our first and second grade go through today is such a good feeling,” Corcoran said.
“They is a really good culture we have been working on for years now.
“The club is in great stead but we aren’t getting ahead of ourselves by any means.”
